Discussion Questions

1. Why does Michael La Rose emphasize the importance of different generations establishing a link between themselves? Is the struggle for liberation a short term or long term focus? Why? Locate at least two examples in The Autobiography of Malcolm X where an older generation exposes its method of struggle and passes its lessons to a younger generation. What reasons would youth have in embracing their parents' struggles?

2. We've learned from previous sessions and other material that one of Malcolm's political views was that we can't win the fight against oppression and racism here in America unless we are conscious of and support that same fight being waged elsewhere by all oppressed people. What new possibilities does the Internet bring to the mix for following what La Rose teaches us is Malcolm's example of "searching for ideas, education, and alliances for power"? Try to think of real practical examples where the Internet could help in bringing us all to "an international progressive position".
